Hilary Duff is hoping shawls stay out of fashion for a little longer. During an interview with Paper magazine published on Monday, the actress and singer reflected on her iconic early 2000s looks from the Metamorphosis era, as fans recreate her outfits, complete with butterfly clips, for her The Lucky Me Tour concerts.
When asked how she feels about seeing fans embrace her nostalgic style, Duff jokingly replied, “Yeah, I have PTSD about how many shawls I wore.” She added that she would have to find a shawl that did not remind her of the ones she used to wear.
However, the Mature star is thrilled about the return of low-rise jeans, one of the defining fashion trends of the early 2000s.
“I don’t think I could wear skin-tight low-rise jeans like I used to, but a baggy low-rise jean, I’m super into,” she explained. Duff also said she enjoys the carefree attitude behind today’s fashion trends, even when the combinations do not necessarily make sense.
“Seeing kids dressed like that makes me so happy, because it takes me back, but I don’t actually want to be 17. I don’t even want to be 25,” the 39-year-old singer added.
Duff also looked back on some of the outfits she wore during the early stages of her pop career, admitting that her stage and everyday looks were sometimes “a little too mismatched.” Now, as she returns to performing, she has embraced one of her favorite wardrobe staples: baggy jeans.
“Remember when baggy started happening again, and it was like, you have to have a tight top with a baggy bottom, or a tight bottom with a baggy top? Now it’s baggy on baggy. Let’s go,” she said with a laugh.
The singer explained that comfort has become a major priority when choosing outfits for her comeback tour.
“Honestly, that was a big part of my show. I was like, ‘I want baggy jeans, I want a baggy T-shirt.’ I want to feel how I feel when I come home after a long day. I want nothing to go in any crevice,” she said.
The Come Clean hitmaker is currently performing dates on The Lucky Me Tour in Australia. Following a break, she is scheduled to return to the stage in Vancouver, Canada, on January 22.
Meanwhile, Duff’s new holiday EP, Holiday Things, is now available.
